In its early history, Carroll County was often called the "Free State of
Carroll" because of its large size and independent character. Nestled
in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains - the county is located
in the West central section of Georgia on the Georgia - Alabama line
with 495 square miles of beauty, recreation and history. It's close
proximity to Atlanta (45 miles) affords businesses and residents the
opportunities of "big-city" convenience in a small town lifestyle.
"Gone With The Wind" - a multi-use living history theme park being
built on 300 acres straddling Carroll and Douglas County near Villa Rica
- will include replicas of Tara, Twelve Oaks and other structures
representing life in the antebellum South.
